Lord Ganesh – always taken a very first name when you start a new business, pray to gods and any other good work. He is also known as many other names like Ganpati, Vinayaka, Pillaiyar, Vighnesha etc.
Ganesha is clearly recognizable from 4th and 5th century during Gupta Period. His name Ganesh comes from Sanskrit meaning Gana – group of multitude and isa – lord of masters. He has been represented with head of Elephant since many years. As per Hindu mythology, Ganesha was created by Parvati using clay to protect her and Shiva. Shiva then replaced his original head with elephant. Other story says when Ganesha born his eyes like evils eyes which is not good for Shivas life and Shiva killed him and reborn him by replacing the elephant head.
As Ganesha is Vighnaharta, people started his pooja very first for any new starting business, buying lands, wedding etc.
